Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are now the common choice for home solar and inverter systems in Iraq. Compared with lead-acid batteries they are lighter, allow deeper use of their capacity and usually have a much longer rated cycle life. Use the points below to choose the right one.
1. Capacity in kWh
Multiply the load you want to run by the hours you need it. For example, 1 kW for 5 hours needs 5 kWh. Add a margin for losses and cloudy days, so a 5 kWh need is better served by a battery of about 6 to 7 kWh, or by a 10 kWh battery if you expect to add loads later.
2. Voltage must match the inverter
Most home lithium batteries are 48V class (51.2V nominal) and work with 48V inverters. Check the inverter's battery voltage range before ordering.
3. BMS and communication
The battery management system protects the cells. Many hybrid inverters read the battery state through CAN or RS485, so confirm that the battery and inverter support a common protocol.
4. Heat and installation
Install the battery indoors in a shaded, ventilated place, away from direct sun, and follow the operating temperature in its datasheet. Iraqi summers make this important for battery life.
5. Expansion
If you may add capacity later, choose a model that supports parallel connection and add the same model. Do not mix different batteries in one bank.
