A router, modem and a few cameras use very little power, so a small UPS can keep your internet and CCTV running for hours during a power cut. You can choose between a DC mini UPS made for these devices and a standard UPS.
Option 1: DC mini UPS (GeTX DC)
A DC UPS powers the router directly from its battery at the voltage the router needs, so there is no conversion loss and the backup time is longer. Read the label on your router or camera adapter and note the voltage, current and plug size, then choose a model that matches, including the polarity.
Option 2: Standard UPS
A standard 650 to 1000VA UPS can power a router, modem and NVR together with a PC. It is useful when you want one UPS for several devices.
How to estimate the load
- Router and modem: about 10 to 25 W together.
- Each IP camera: about 5 to 15 W.
- NVR with a hard disk: about 20 to 40 W.
Add them up, then compare with the watt rating of the UPS or the amps of the DC UPS. A small load on a battery gives long runtime; ask for the runtime at your load.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best UPS for a router?
A DC mini UPS that matches the router's voltage, current and polarity, or a small standard UPS if you also have a PC or NVR.
How long will a UPS run my router?
A router uses very little power, so runtime can be several hours; it depends on the battery capacity and the load.
Can one UPS power cameras and the router?
Yes, if the total watts are below the UPS rating and the voltage and plugs match. Add up the router, modem, cameras and NVR.
